Shall We Uncover a Mystery Today

Shall we uncover a mystery today,
Of how we look wide and straight, but only see,
Through meandering walls and tiny cracks
Wherever we may be?

Shall we solve a riddle today
Of how we love so much,
Yet hate another, enough
To poison the lovers touch?

Shall we solve a puzzle today
Wherever God may be
To hide and lend himself to prophets
Who profit more than we?

No we shall not solve these today,
Or tomorrow.
We shall interpolate and extrapolate
And find it necessary to borrow
Justifications from an older quarrel
Like stale bread and swallow.
For else we will be hungry until the morrow.
